Super Deluxe

A film, perhaps constructed to voice out the director’s thoughts on life and the themes that surround it, delivers intriguing multiple interrelated storylines with dark humor and philosophy. At three hours of runtime, Super Deluxe can test your patience at times. Yet, every scene and dialogue have a purpose to the story and it will eventually tie up in the end. The film isn’t the neatest and the ending to the film might seem abrupt with some of the storyline feeling rushed at the end. However, the director has placed certain clever plot twists that keeps you from guessing how it ends. Mersal

Genre – Drama

Mersal follows the Lemuria continent old story of two brothers avenging the brutal murder of their parents. Atlee’s search for a fresh script without any adaptation continues with this movie too. Yet, what makes Atlee’s movie entertaining is his way of presenting it to the audience. The scenes and dialogues about the present condition of the state and the country are highly commendable. Even though it has certain logic issues, a praiseworthy film.

Solo (2017)

Starring – Dulquer Salmaan, Neha Sharma
Director – Bejoy Nambiar
Genre – Anthology

I must say that this is the most interesting, confusing film and Best Tamil Movies on Netflix. 2017 was the year of experimental movies, and Solo is an anthology art film narrating the story of four different people based on four different elements: Water, Air, Fire, and Earth. World of Shekhar (Water) is a poetic love story between a stammering Shekhar and a blind Radhika.

The gentleness and innocent beauty of water are depicted through his character. World of Trilok is based on the air element. After a hit and run case of Trilok’s then-pregnant wife Ayesha, he tracks down the guilty ones, Justin and his father in law and skillfully murders them making it look like natural deaths. The unforgiving, smooth yet stormy and unpredictable nature of air is described through the character of Trilok.

Whereas, the world of Shiva explains fire and the characteristics linked with it including rage, pain, and vengeance. But through Shiva, the writer also connects fire with fierce love, protective and chaotic natures of man. Finally, the world of Rudra explains the embracing, kind yet spirited nature of Mother Earth through an aggressive and passionate army officer Rudra. The movie has a very philosophical approach to the relationship between man and nature and only a brilliant director could’ve framed it so accurately. Dulquer Salmaan is such a treat to watch and therefore Solo gives something for all of us to wonder about. – Nikitha Kashyap

Sarvam Thaala Mayam

Best Tamil Movies on Netflix: Starring G. V. Prakash Kumar and Nedumudi Venu in the lead roles, the film also stars Vineeth, Kumaravel and Aparna Balamurali as the supporting cast. The film is about Peter Johnson, who is an ardent Vijay fan and son of mridangam maker Johnson, aims to master mridangam from the acclaimed Vembu Iyer. Sarvam Thaala Mayam was melodious, rich in visuals, produces many volumes of emotions and also sheds light on casteism which is still prevailing in the society. It was a well-provided and varied experience indeed.
