Prithviraj Sukumaran made his film debut at a very young age portraying a mature character (Manu) in Nandanam (2002). He is one of the very few mainstream artists of Malayalam cinema who attempts to do movies in different genres and raised the significance of technical capabilities of film making. Although he is criticized for nepotism during the initial stages of his career, his achievements had outclassed that of his father – Late. Sukumaran.

Furthermore, he managed to deliver excellent performances in movies like Ananthabhadram and selected roles that no other actors dare to do, as in Mumbai Police. 5. Nandanam

Ranjith’s Nandanam is a family movie with the right blend of love with a few shades of fantasy. Despite being his first movie, Prithviraj Sukumaran delivers an extraordinary performance and portrays his role with ease. On the storyline side of things, Nandanam opens with Balamani (Navya Nair), a Lord Krishna devotee, who finds her living as a housemaid in an old, traditional house near the Guruvayur Temple. On the other hand, Manu (Prithviraj Sukumaran) arrives home to visit his grandmother before leaving abroad. Consequently, both of them are drawn towards each other despite their cultural gaps.

Lal Jose’s Classmates holds a special place amongst the best Malayalam movies based on friendship and the movie handles a nostalgic reunion as it’s primary theme. The friendly reunion takes the characters in the movie back to their college days filled with fun, romance, politics, and rivalries. However, beyond the sunshine and rainbows, the movie manages to take some intriguing turns which form the remainder of the plot. Performance-wise, Prithviraj Sukumaran portrays the role of Suku in different phases of his life, a left-centric student leader, and a seasoned business personality with superiority and confidence.

Anarkali, an intense romantic drama, details the stories of Shantanu (Prithviraj Sukumaran), an ex-naval officer, and Nadira (Priyal Gor), an underage girl, who decide to wait to prove their love to Nadira’s father, Rear Admiral Jaffer Imam (Kabir Bedi). However, when Shanthanu loses contact with her, he sets out to Lakshadweep to locate her. Directed by Sachy, the profound script imparts a strong backbone to the film, and Prithviraj Sukumaran handles his character with all the right emotions.

2. Memories

Jeethu Joseph’s Memories portrays the story of an efficient police officer – Sam Alex (Prithviraj Sukumaran), who goes through a family tragedy that destroys him mentally. Eventually, he gets assigned to the investigation of a serial killer, but Sam, who was once a distinguished cop, finds himself addicted to alcohol rather than focusing on the investigation. And the remainder of the film depicts the different ways of him getting closer to the serial killer. Narratively, the screenplay of the film kept the audience engaged in the story, and Jeethu Joseph’s brilliant direction makes Memories a must-watch.


1. Urumi

Urumi, a historical fantasy, explores the story of Kelu – a warrior from the 16th century with stunning visuals captured by cinematographer-cum-director Santhosh Shivan. The movie interchanges between the present day and the 16th-century timelines, and it is one of the very few movies where multiple artists performed their roles in two distinct time periods. Krishnakumar (Prithviraj Sukumaran) upon arriving at his motherland, encounters a few incidents that allow him to know about the history of his ancestors.

On the other hand, the narrative also takes us back to the 16th century to Northern Kerala, where Chirakkal Kelu Nayanar (Prithviraj Sukumaran) lived with a single aim of eliminating the Portuguese Sailor, Vasco da Gama to avenge his father Chirakkal Kothuwal’s (Aarya) death, and fulfill his wish. Urumi managed to detail the right historical facts and Prithviraj Sukumaran outperformed every other artist with his exceptional acting abilities as the warrior hero, Kelu Nayanar.
