5. Dangal

Director – Nitesh Tiwari
Genre – Sports / Biopic
Streaming Platform – Netflix

[‘Dangal’ is also feat. in our ‘Best Bollywood Movies on Netflix’ article]

Made on a budget of 70 crores and collecting a whopping 2100 crore at the worldwide box-office, Dangal starring Amir Khan in the lead is the highest-grossing Indian film and also the highest-grossing sports film worldwide. It is a sports-biographical drama based on the Phogat family.

Mahavir Singh Phogat, a wrestler who is forced to give up wrestling, dreams of making his son a professional wrestler and win a Gold Medal for India. But life takes a weird turn and he is blessed with four daughters. Eventually, he realizes about his daughters’ potency and he begins coaching them in wrestling to make them win Gold for India at the Commonwealth Games, which was his unachieved dream, despite the adverse reaction from the villagers and also his daughters.

Dangal is certainly one of the well-made biopics and sports genre films which truly inspires, evoking strong emotions in the end. Nitesh Tiwari’s storytelling skill, shedding light on the internal diplomacies of the sports authorities, breaking social taboos prevalent, backed by unprecedented acting by Aamir Khan and others made this a global hit.

PK

Director – Rajkumar Hirani
Genre – Comedy / Drama
Streaming Platform – Netflix

Yet another blockbuster from the Aamir Khan-Rajkumar Hirani combo, PK is truly a work of genius as Director Rajkumar Hirani has set his standards high with this film. PK tells the story of an alien who lands on our planet by mistake. And as the story progresses, he tries to fit himself and make a better living on Earth but finds it unmanageable with all the religious and superstitious beliefs being followed here.

He is characterized as a person with clean and pure thoughts, not able to gimmick and cheat like others. With a fresh idea, well-written screenplay, dialogues questioning our beliefs, and fabulous performances make PK one of the Best Movies of Aamir Khan and is a must-watch.

3. Lagaan

Director – Ashutosh Gowariker
Genre – Sports
Streaming Platform – Netflix

Next on the list of the Best Movies of Aamir Khan is Lagaan, an extraordinary movie depicting India’s colonial British rule when there was ponderosity of brutality. The British people cynically played goons who collected tax called Lagaan from local villagers. Set in the village of Champaner, delayed monsoon makes it difficult for the farmers to cultivate any crop, and paying the annual tax becomes impossible.

Burdened by high tax, the villagers are made to sign up to play cricket against British officers in exchange for forsaking the tax. Folktale tinge, fabulous casting, and fantastic production design are the movie’s USP apart from mind-blowing music by Rahman, earning the movie an Oscar nomination.

2. Taare Zameen Par

Director – Aamir Khan
Genre – Drama
Streaming Platform – Netflix

Written by Amole Gupte, this film marks Aamir Khan’s debut as a director. One of the Best Movies of Aamir Khan, this movie touches on the subject of social disorder due to the high expectations of parents. An 8-year-old boy who is dyslexic, is demoralized and looked down by his parents for not excelling well in studies and compare him to his elder brother. His trauma and animosity towards school are well depicted through his eyes. This constant pressure from parents is such a common mistake that occurs in most families and yet we fail to realize its amplitude. How Aamir Khan helps the kid with his disability forms the rest of the story.

Aamir scores big in his directorial debut with a heartwarming, full of emotions and a powerful social message and went on to become India’s official submission for the 2009 Academy Awards, but unfortunately, it didn’t make it to the final list.

1. 3 Idiots

Director – Rajkumar Hirani
Genre – Comedy / Drama
Streaming Platform – Netflix

[‘3 Idiots’ is also feat. in our ‘Most Re-watchable Bollywood Movies’ article]

Top on the list of the Best Movies of Aamir Khan is 3 Idiots. And I am short of words to express the greatness of this movie. From the beginning till the end, there is never a part where the audience would have felt bored or disconnected from the movie. It is based on a novel by celebrated Author Chetan Bhagat and provides the message that if we follow our passion, success comes automatically. This is beautifully depicted by showcasing the life of three engineering students in a premiere college, their struggles, and happy moments.

Some poignant moments in the film provoke deep thought in us to the extent where we end up questioning our Education system. With an impeccable casting, masterclass storytelling skills, and brilliant direction, 3 Idiots went on to become a global blockbuster, minting quick money at the box office and receiving numerous awards and accolades.
