Akshay Kumar’s 2021 espionage thriller, Bell Bottom, revolves around an undercover RAW agent, who embarks on a covert mission to release 210 hostages held by hijackers in the UAE. Despite the apparent drawbacks you’ll tend to find in a patriotic Akshay Kumar drama, this film manages to keep you engaged till the very last minute. Starring – Sohum Shah
Director – Various
Genre – Horror

Helmed by three directors, Rahi Anil Barve, Anand Gandhi, and Adesh Prasad, Tumbbad is an off-beat blend of mythology, with a gory and dark narrative. The movie may not appeal the faint-hearted. But it is a fantasy horror that certainly deserves a chance, for making huge strides in the right direction as far as Indian cinema is concerned. One of the Best Bollywood Movies on Amazon Prime India. – Anurag Rao

Director – Farhan Akhtar
Genre – Action-Thriller

Farhan Akhtar’s remake of the 1978 film of the same name, Don starring Shah Rukh Khan as the kingpin is one of the, if not the most stylish films Bollywood produced in the 2000s. The stellar performances, breathtaking action scenes, crisp screenplay, and the elegant production design made the 2006 version, an equally impressive film as it’s original. – Surya Komal

33. Don 2

Director – Farhan Akhtar
Genre – Action-Thriller

The sequel to the 2006 film, Don 2 lived up to all the expectations, and once again proved that Shah Rukh Khan is tailor-made for this role as the kingpin. His chemistry with Priyanka Chopra, the performances, the stellar soundtrack, and once again, an amazing directorial job by Farhan Akhtar made this sequel stand-out from the rest and proved to be a big-screen spectacle. – Surya Komal

One of the Best Bollywood Movies on Amazon Prime. – Surya Komal

31. Talaash

Director – Reema Kagti
Genre – Thriller

The 2012 psychological crime thriller, Talaash is unparalleled in its approach and is the primary reason why it went on to become one of the highest-grossing films of 2012. Directing thrillers of this particular kind is never easy as it has to be more brief and gripping when it comes to the narration. However, director Reema Kagti does a splendid job and scores in these aspects through and through. Talaash is an engaging thriller that leaves you mesmerized for the most part. Watch it for the story and the top-notch performances from the cast. – Surya Komal

30. Detective Byomkesh Bakshy

Starring – Sushant Singh Rajput, Neeraj Kabi
Director – Dibakar Banerjee
Genre – Mystery / Thriller

Best Bollywood Movies on Amazon Prime: Reviving a disregarded genre in Indian cinema, Byomkesh Bakshy starring Sushant Singh Rajput in the titular role is beguiling in every single frame, it upholds the suspense on a constant pace and also tests our intellect with a perplexing screenplay. From the background score to the archaic setting of the pre-independent era and the exceptional performances, this movie has everything in its favor, and it doesn’t disappoint. – Surya Komal

29. Mardaani

Starring – Rani Mukerji, Tahir Bhasin
Director – Pradeep Sarkar
Genre – Action-Thriller

Mardaani recites with a simple premise and also with an impressive run time of 114 minutes, a fearless lady cop hunts down an obnoxious child sex trafficking gang. Did she successfully triumph over? You would probably guess the obvious answer. Mardaani is an imperative and a much-needed movie for all (especially women). It was completely confident in its approach and believed in its original storyline. It might not blend well in a nonspecific world, but if you do respect these movies, go give it a watch. – Surya Komal

28. Sarbjit

Starring – Randeep Hooda & Aishwarya Rai
Director – Omung Kumar
Genre – Biopic

Sarbjit portrays a 23-year fight and struggle of a sister for her brother who went missing in Punjab and was later found in a Pakistani prison where he was accused as an Indian spy responsible for several bomb blasts and was held captive in severe conditions until his death. Overall, it was the incredible performances from Randeep and Aishwarya that primarily carried the entire film and made it noteworthy. Although the story and screenplay were overall decent, the screenwriters would’ve been more focused on their execution. – Surya Komal

27. Tumhari Sulu

Genre – Musical

[This excerpt comes from Surya’s ‘Gully Boy’ Review]

From Luck By Chance to Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara and Dil Dhadakne Do, Zoya Akhtar always strived to explore different genres and contested with new material. Gully Boy, is no different. It is raw and entertaining, emotional and inspirational and above all stands tall and adheres to the vibe it created. Although the runtime creates few serious hiccups to the overall product, Zoya Akhtar manages to narrate a beautiful story and at the same time sheds light on the asli hip-hop scene in India which is still underrated despite having some serious Indian talents. One of the Best Bollywood Movies on Amazon Prime.

25. Section 375

Director – Ajay Bahl

Genre – Courtroom Drama

[Also feat. at #3 spot in our ‘Best Hindi Movies of 2019’ list]

Ajay Bahl’s Section 375 is one of those rare Bollywood films that keeps you glued to the screen, for its entirety, and leaves you appalled by the end. Showcasing a sexual assault case between a movie director and a junior costume designer, this 124-minute courtroom drama highlights a variety of issues when it comes to today’s world.  Surya Komal

24. Padmaavat

Director – Sanjay Leela Bhansali

Director – Luv Ranjan
Starring – Aaryan, Singh & Bharuccha
Genre – Comedy

[This excerpt comes from Surya’s ‘Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety’ Review]

Directed by Luv Ranjan who presented us with two of the funniest comedies in the past few years, Pyaar Ka Punchnama 1 and 2, Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety stars Ranjan’s staple actors Kartik Aaryan, Sunny Singh, and Nushrat Bharucha in the lead roles and is collectively produced by both T-Series and Luv Films. On the whole, this is not at all a bad film in any regard, it will entertain you with few funny laughs, peppy music, and enjoyable performances but as an overall film, it failed in few aspects which were crucial.

22. Raazi

Director – Meghna Gulzar
Starring – Alia Bhatt, Vicky Kaushal

Genre – Spy Thriller

Best Bollywood Movies on Amazon Prime: Directed by Meghna Gulzar and starring Alia Bhatt in the lead role, Raazi is a spy-thriller and is one of my most anticipated movies of 2018. The storyline of the film follows a 20-year-old college-going girl, Sehmat who is tutored and altered into an Indian Spy and is consigned to investigate a Pakistani Army family at the time of the Indo-Pakistani War in 1971. An engaging thriller and an excellent display of one of the unsung heroes of the Indo-Pakistan War. – Surya Komal

21. 102 Not Out

Director – Umesh Shukla
Starring – Amitabh Bachchan and Rishi Kapoor
Genre – Comedy / Drama

Preview Only: For a movie which only had four primary characters, 102 Not Out delivered much more than I expected, as I found myself laughing out loud and crying emotively within those 150 minutes and is a prime example of a heartening family drama. – Surya Komal

20. Trapped

Director – Vikramaditya Motwane
Starring – Rajkummar Rao
Genre – Survival Drama

[Also feat. ‘Top 10 Movies of Rajkummar Rao’ article list]

Trapped is an award-winning, survival drama about a man who gets trapped in his apartment without water, food, electricity or any way to contact anyone outside. This film is not for the faint of heart because of the sheer terror that it can fill a person with. We have all experienced elements (locked out without keys, lack of water or food, discharged phone batteries, and isolation) of what happens to this character which makes it all the more relatable. This is a film that could have easily been over the top, but Rajkummar Rao grounds this film with one of his finest performances.

19. Karwaan

Years later, he sets out to revive his career as he needs the prize money and wants to regain his lost respect. A worthy watch and is one of the Best Bollywood Movies on Amazon Prime. The film also stars Anushka Sharma as the female lead.

[Ranked in no particular order]
16. Blackmail

[This excerpt comes from Surya’s ‘Blackmail’ Review]

Directed by Abhinay Deo (Delhi Belly and Force 2 fame), Blackmail starring Irrfan Khan in the lead role is a black-comedy and revolves around the elements of revenge, deceit, and trickery. The film also co-stars Kirti Kulhari, Divya Dutta, Arunoday Singh and Omi Vaidya as the supporting cast. This film had an interesting concept and was extremely funny to watch. Despite having few ups and downs with the screenplay, pace, and runtime, it impresses as a black-comedy and is totally worth spending money on it.

15. Sui Dhaaga

Hera Pheri is one of those classics that bring a twinkle to everyone’s eyes. We all know how amazing it is. Mohabbatein comprises everything necessary for a hit. It has the best star cast, story, songs, etc. The strong script was supported brilliantly by Shah Rukh Khan, Amitabh Bachchan and the rest of the cast. Best Bollywood Movies on Amazon Prime: Kapoor & Sons is a story about two brothers Arjun (Sidharth) and Rahul (Fawad) as they return to India nearly after five years to visit their family and grandfather who is ill and breathing his final days in life. 8. Newton

Director – Amit V. Masurkar
Starring – Rajkummar Rao

Newton is just good cinema all round with all the elements necessary to make a good movie. The storytelling is both funny and interesting while drawing attention to one of the least talked about social issues in India at present that of ensuring voting rights for even the remotest and naxal affected corners of the country and its importance. The third collaboration of SRK and Yash Chopra, this was the biggest hit of 1997. From the star cast to the story and music, Dil To Pagal Hai was a wholesome package. The second lead played by Karishma Kapoor was almost rejected by every actress of that time.
