Avengers: Endgame – An Ending a Grand Franchise Deserves! – Editorial

Avengers: Endgame – An Ending of a Grand Franchise: ‘I am Iron Man’… Few would’ve guessed that Robert Downey Jr’s attitude would be earning billions soon when Iron Man (2008) hit the theaters and took the audience for a decade long ride. In this short ride, we had multiple heroes to choose from. A blistering thunder God, an innocent raging Hulk, bold-yet-beautifully scripted set of Women. A patriot who wears the flag of his nation on his chest and an idiot in a spaceship with limited vintage song collection. Not anybody can be a hero, but, he can come from anywhere. Even in the form of a tree repeating three words adorably. He can be your awkward friend in high school. Still, when the time came, the one guy we were skeptical about taking the bullet for all.

Tony Stark is a genius. A few weeks in a terrorist’s cave cleared his mind and showed him the purpose he was lacking in his billionaire playboy lifestyle. But, he was still cocky, witty and above all, a great provider. Without his hush money, Avengers might have to book an Uber Black ride while Dr Banner follows them on a Rapido (a two-wheeler pay-per-ride automobile service in India). He almost always has a backup plan like Friday when an AI (Ultron) consume Jarvis. Death is undoubtedly one of the scariest things we can think of. We are always after immortality. Our stories are filled with immortals. To be an immortal, people might not have to die. But, Stark had to die to become immortal among the people.

A Villain

There’s no worse Villain than Thanos. “The movie is as good as the villain in it.” Thanos is the living embodiment of this saying. Think about it. How many villains were there in the Marvel Universe? From Obadiah to Ronan, nobody scared the viewers or the Avengers like Thanos. And Obadiah’s crime was being a pure capitalist. Ronan, like Thanos, also had a similar thing in mind on how to use the power stone.

To wipe out ecosystems. But, for Ronan, it was personal. Unlike Thanos who did that in random. That’s the reason we’re afraid of Thanos. We cannot threaten a guy with anything that has the will to wipe out half the life on the universe. Anything we have to offer to him, he’ll just laugh his ass off to become a viral meme on the internet. In a sentence, Thanos is a subject of philosophy. 21st-century kids are learning from Thanos and I know that at least a couple of them will create more silver screen monsters that will haunt us in the future.

A Hope

Everybody accepted their defeat. Nature claimed back the land and the water. There are whale pods in the city’s river because there are fewer people to pollute. Some moved out of cities into woods with their loved ones to have a new beginning. But it took five years and a rat stumbling around in an ugly van to bring back Ant-Man from the Quantum Realm. He brings news that gives us a shadow of hope. Time runs differently in the quantum realm. And Stark even though rejects the idea of a ‘Time Heist’ at first, was compelled to try because of that shadow of hope. The tremendous loss of his prodigy (Spider-Man), the student he never had dragged him back with a solution that made the said time heist happen.

We might find ourselves in the darkest times of our lives, but a single candle can give you comfort on a frightening night. Hope is what drives us to wake up in the morning. A hope that our lives will be better and easier than yesterday. Even Thor, who has given up on hope, and was spending his life by screaming at a ten year old online straightened his act because of Hope.

An Ending

While a movie can be boring at sometimes, a well-plotted ending can change all of that. Now the movie is not only entertaining, but it also becomes an epic. When Thanos’ head rolled, nobody felt like we won the game. Because the truth is we didn’t win, we just played the game. And even Thanos was dead, it was by his plan. He succeeded and accepted it. The real win was when Avengers re-assembled to do ‘whatever it takes’ when there was slight shimmering hope of bringing back our lost kin. New beginnings like a new Captain America, a sense of maturity in Spider-Man, a fallen Martyr like Iron Man, a lovely kid for us to love 3000. This Avengers Endgame gave a great ending to a beloved and respectful franchise.
