The Simple Complexity of The Lord of the Rings – Editorial

A Thought Experiment

If the world advances at the same speed, the movie industry will see a robust change. Meanwhile, redefining the ‘movie watching’ experience for us. It’s entirely possible that we can experience any movie like reality by the end of the 1st half of the 21st century. Inserting yourself as a character in the movie, doing things the character does.

On that day, if I get to pick one story per one genre, I might struggle to decide on other genres, but, when it comes to fantasy, the choice is The Lord of the Rings (LOTR). Remember, I said story, not a movie. So, The Lord of the Rings story already includes the Hobbits’ stories too. Why because it’s brilliant… maybe?

Argument

And if you’re gonna experience/feel a movie by being any character, what’s better out there than LOTR? You can live your life at the fullest like the Elves. More specifically, as Legolas, a Prince with a better set of morals, a skilled hunter and the best archer in the world. Bringing down a sixty-feet elephant in a jaw-dropping kill? Yessir!

Or maybe Aragorn… The Real King… The best (sometimes worst) occupation in any world known. Can you imagine how immense the respect you command as a Real King?? It’s not for being powerful, not because he has the money or royal blood pumping through the heart. But, because he deserves it. He united the whole world (both dead and alive) under his sword to defeat the Dark Lord. I consider that as the ultimate achievement and he also smooches a she-Elf. That’s always a romantic side of it if you are a fan or just want to feel alive. The most un-explainable sensation a human could have.

How about any of the Hobbits? Or the Hobbit King, Thorin Oakenshield? He’s a king without a kingdom. A philosopher without an audience. Every time he says Thorin, son of Thrain, son of Thror, how cool would that be? Bond… James Bond seems a little less hip now? It should. Or the star, Hobbit Frodo. With his trustworthy sidekick, Frodo was wrapped into a sandwich by a giant spider, he got tormented by the ring and Gollum and at the end, he was the one that saved the world. That’s an adventure to live through. Who don’t like roller-coasters?

You can never have less The Lord of the Rings. If you want to feel powerful, you got the dragon… The ultimate killing machine that leaves an entire town in ashes. Remember when it swims through the lake of gold under the mountain? Bring you any memories? I grew up watching Scrooge McDuck swimming through gold and I thought I would do that someday. If you feel like evil is your poison today, we have the ultimate evil. Sauron, the Dark Lord.

There’s always a couple of trolls, a dozen over sized wolves, a pack of eagles, an army of orcs to try around. What makes us human is we can experience things that other living things cannot. So, what better way than this? What better story than The Lord of the Rings. (that rhymes too!)

Conclusion

That’s the Simple Complexity of The Lord of the Rings. Complex in every possible character, while being simple at the heart of the story. So, which movie or character would you choose if you can live through one movie? Comment down below?!
