The Princess Switch: Switched Again Review – Unnecessary yet Undeniable!

A sequel to 2018 hit The Princess Switch, Switched Again is Netflix’s latest addition to its Christmas romantic movie collection. It has Vanessa Hudgens, Sam Palladio, Nick Sagar rephrasing their role from the prequel. While the prequel ended on a good note, is a sequel required? Let’s find out.

Directed by Michael Rohl, the story of Switched Again begins two years from its predecessor, with the King of Montenaro passing away, Margaret is about to be crowned as the Queen. Subsequently, she and Kevin aren’t in a relationship now, and Stacy and Edward are living a busy life, without enough time to spend with each other.

Kevin, along with his daughter Olivia, and Stacy, and Edward decide to attend Margaret’s coronation where the third look-alike, Fiona, the Lady of Pembroke, is introduced. With quite a few switches taking place, the rest of The Princess Switch: Switched Again showcases how the complications that happened due to the characters switching roles are finally solved.

Well, I liked the prequel; it was a light-hearted rom-com with a fairy tale ending. I never appreciated the idea of coming up with a second film in the series and introducing a third look-alike and messing things, which were pretty good as a solo movie. But still, The Princess Switch: Switched Again was not all bad, for that matter.

The center of focus for The Princess Switch: Switched Again, being Vanessa Hudgens, she hit it off with three similar-looking characters but completely different personalities. She takes utmost care not to repeat herself with each character and helps us to distinguish between the various roles in the film. The rest of the cast, including Lachlan Nieboer, who is a new addition to the star cast, performs decent enough.

Being a Christmas based movie, the production design delivers what is needed to excite the holiday feel. Most of the locations, including the Royal Estates, has been decorated enough to arouse the Christmas mood. To sum it up, The Princess Switch: Switched Again was bright, cheerful, and exciting as far as the technical aspects of the movie are concerned.

Let’s come back to discuss the story and the necessity to bring a sequel. Despite The Princess Switch: Switched Again was not dull or in any way inferior to its prequel, I found it highly unnecessary to elaborate on certain things. It would have been a lot better if they had finished it off with the first part, which was pretty much a complete film by itself, which did not require a second one.

Nevertheless, The Princess Switch: Switched Again, much like its predecessor, runs high on emotions, love, and quite a few comical moments. If you are someone who would not mind a senseless rom-com with a fairy tale ending, which would kick start the Christmas mood, then this one’s for you.
