The Devil Next Door on Netflix Review: Immaculate and Keeps You Guessing!

Premiered on November 4, 2019, the new Netflix documentary, The Devil Next Door recounts one of the most notorious criminal cases in history involving John Demjanjuk, who was accused of committing war crimes as a gas chamber guard at the Nazi concentration camps. This five-part limited series unfolds everything from the beginning until the end of the case and tries to give us a fair share of information of both the sides in a clear-cut manner.

Best described as a “soap opera” when asked about their reaction to the case, one of the best things that the filmmakers are able to display in the show is the magnitude and the amount of appeal that it had from people all over the world. The media, the public and the children willing to learn a piece of history, everyone was glued to their screens, and the documentary did a tremendous job making their voice heard.

The other significant aspects which keep the show moving is the amount of crisscrossing and the rate at which the narrative keeps bouncing from one side to another. And the show keeps it neutral and do not take sides for the most part. It puts together a fair share of valid and authentic information and lets you decide rather than pushing a certain angle. On the other side, by and large, the entire show is presented with some reasonable amount of real-life footage and didn’t solely depend on the interviews or some stock footage.

Overall, The Devil Next Door on Netflix takes us back to a nightmarish memory lane and recites a series of horrific incidents that happened during World War II. In conjunction to that, the limited series also puts together all the bits and pieces of the ‘John Demjanjuk vs The State of Israel’ immaculately and keeps you glued to the screen even if you’re not familiar with the history. Yet another home run by Netflix as they keep delivering quality content as far as true-crime documentaries go. Watch ‘The Devil Next Door’ on Netflix here.
