Scream 7 Review: The BBL of the Franchise, This Movie was Total Ass!

Scream 7 is the BBL of the franchise, because this movie was total ass. In the seventh fucking installment of the Scream franchise, the story of Sam Carpenter is abandoned and placed back on OG final girl Sydney, who is now a mother of a teenage girl. They are terrorized by the iconic Ghostface killer, and seemingly faced with adversaries of the past.

While I’m not a major Scream fan, nor have I been enamored by the modern slate of movies, Scream 7 is the worst we have seen from this series. It easily has the worst script (written by James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick) of the pack, where the story rests upon an empty return of legacy characters and unfashionable gimmicks (such as emerging AI). The dialogue is laughably bad, and I felt that even I could write better lines for these actors. I struggled to see a character that is given proper development.

Sydney’s reintroduction to the leading role offers nothing new, and her daughter Tatum (played by Isabel May) contributes minimally aside from the stakes of being a target for the new threat. Along with the side characters, they don’t find any belonging in the story other than fan service for Scream lovers and opponents to Ghostface. Little satisfaction is gained from their inclusion.

However, Scream 7 does a couple things well. The gore is stylistic and neat, and there’s a couple instances of good cinematography. But that’s really where it stops in distinguishing itself. Scream 7 goes by the numbers of the story structure from every previous entry, leaving marginal intrigue with the mystery and motives of the antagonist. By the end reveal, I was aghast. This is the worst Ghostface by far, and their place in the story makes no comprehensible sense at all.

With all the production difficulty, Scream 7 doesn’t take any direction with its story that is refreshing, inventive, or even entertaining. Instead, it is superficial slop with poorly developed characters and little to offer to one of the longer-running horror movie series. Maybe it’s finally time to hang up the coat on this franchise.
