Peaky Blinders: A Quintessential Show on Netflix You Shouldn’t Miss!
Peaky Blinders is set in post World War 1 Britain and Peaky Blinders is the name of the gang led by the ‘Shelby Family.’ Arthur, Thomas, John are the three brothers, Finn – the kid brother, and Polly is the Aunt of the three Shelby brothers. Born and bred, the Shelby family runs the town with little resistance from the authority until a lawman shows up to take care of the Shelby Family.

Under the new management of Thomas Shelby who was also a decorated war hero, the Peaky Blinders take over the horse races and bettings from the main bookie Billy Kimber. In a series of escalating violence that soon turns into a bloody war between two determined crime bosses. That’s Season 1. As the show completes each season, the cliffhangers become more intense, the violence becomes more gritty, and the opponents get tougher and ruthless.
Thomas Shelby is what I call, “Sheer Class”. He is the guy you want in your corner. Planning every step carefully, taking calculated risks, sparing one there, punishing one here, he is a crownless King in his crime Kingdom. He knows what he wants and goes after it with such a passion that we couldn’t help but admire the guy. Even it doesn’t seem like it, he’s the smartest person in the room almost every time.
Arthur is the eldest of the Shelby Brothers and loyal to the bone. The Great War (alias World War 1) was one of the greatest tragedies of human history. Out of all the Shelbys, Arthur got the worst of the war. Nightmares, ill-tempered, nerves that could be set off by a wrong look at him, Arthur is the scariest and unpredictable one. His rage can be seen as both the strongest and weakest points of Tommy.
Tommy overcomes all the challenges while setting sight on new goals regularly. He’s sort of the Dictator of his little world that runs according to his will and whims. A veteran soldier who endured horrifying things in the name of war cannot be controlled when he has a goal set in his mind. A broken man is more dangerous than a King. A King has his subjects to answer to. A broken man won’t answer to anybody.
Bond of brothers is one of the purest forms of love and social bond in this materialistic world. And Peaky Blinders is all about the love between brothers. Neglected by life and scarred by battles, Shelby brothers always watch each other’s backs even when they might not agree with each other. For what is love if not set aside your convictions to find common ground. Even if that common ground seems like an obvious bloodbath on an unprecedented scale.
Deep inside the murdering, thieving and philandering Tommy, we could observe the young man who didn’t deserve war at such a young age. He falls in love, has his heartbroken, then mended for a brief time just to be broken again in spectacular fashion. Everybody is a hopeless lover/romantic waiting for the right woman… In Tommy’s life, that woman is Grace Burgess. Entering Tommy’s life as a spy for the lawman, she falls in love with him after getting to know him. Even being a cruel underworld boss, in Tommy, she discovers a compassionate soldier who’s stuck in no man’s land.

This show is what I consider to be “quintessential.” There’s no better word I can think of to describe it in one word. There’s something for everybody to enjoy this show. Binge-watching might become extinct in the future. If you have time to burn and are in the hunt for a new show, look it up… by the order of the Peaky F’n Blinders.
