The narrative of Mafia: Chapter 1 is based upon the drug culture prevailing in the society, and the crimes relating to drug abuse. Arun Vijay plays the role of a Narcotic officer – Aryan and is compelled to capture the primary supply head of the drugs to the city.
Quickly moving on to the positives of Mafia: Chapter 1, Arun Vijay as a performer looked stylish through and through with his uber-cool persona. He portrayed his police officer character with ease and is highly engaging onscreen.
Priya Bhavani Shankar (of Meyyadha Maan fame), as his assistant, fits into her role well and shares decent chemistry with Arun Vijay. Prasanna in the negative shade as the antagonist aces the role with his smart acting skills and steals the show for the most part.
With the screenplay already being a run-of-the-mill lackluster ride, the excessive use of slow-mo shots made the movie a bit mundane, yet the convincing narration and the overall output made this a passable movie. Karthick Naren manages to end the film on a cliffhanger and succeeds in making the audience guess what is to come in the second chapter.
Irrespective of the glaring flaws, and it being a cat and mouse brawl, for the most part, the distinctive film making style and owning a selling point in the climax, made Mafia: Chapter 1 an entertaining one-time watch.
