Loki S2 Review: A Compelling Centerpiece!

As harsh as I’ve become towards almost all the recent Marvel projects, Loki on Disney+ is one of the few standouts that has earned my respect. The first season was a diamond in the rough of Phase Four, showing Loki to be a compelling centerpiece for a new story. Season 2 had to keep that same momentum moving as the hype for the MCU is on life support.

Gladly, Season 2 of Loki is a worthwhile experience. I will always commend Tom Hiddleston for his excellent performance as this character. He really does make Loki a standout presence in all of these Marvel projects, but here there is a high level of emotion that he tethers to this character. He sells this as a satisfying conclusion to this series and the character’s log-spanning arc.

In addition, the supporting cast greatly offers a variety of charm. Mobius and Sylvie are further developed with the complexion their characters deserve. The inclusion of new cast members, such as Ke Huy Quan and Rafael Casal, are welcome ones. I can also say, with confidence, that this is one of the better looking Marvel projects that display transparent care over the technical presentation down to minute details.

Aside from the well-done VFX, there is talent shown behind the camera with steady long takes and framing that captures remarkable scenery. The composed score is distinct for this series and melds together with both the progressively frenetic escalating conflicts, and the more somber character-centered moments.

Marvel did strike gold in how Loki’s story would be told along the span of this two-season series. With all the time-traveling hijinks and multiverse craziness, Loki on Disney+ always remained as the most significant aspect without a loss of focus. To me, that’s what makes this series as successful as it is.
