Starring Mary Elizabeth Winstead in the titular role, Kate on Netflix is a 2021 action film directed by Cedric Nicolas-Troyan and co-starring Miku Martineau and Woody Harrelson in supporting roles. The storyline of the movie revolves around our primary character, a vicious assassin, who, on her final assignment, has less than 24 hours to discover who ordered the hit and exact revenge.

Shoot them in the stomach. They die slowly, in agony, and they know, it’s personal. Stylistically Kate on Netflix was well-executed. The city locales of Tokyo looked vibrant with colorful neon anime characters, notably after dawn. I noticed that there’s a lot of the color pink, particularly in the car chase scene. Cinematographer Lyle Vincent did a fantastic job in shooting a few stand-out scenes which reminded me a bit of Baby Driver a little bit.
And this led to violent, entertaining, and kick-ass action scenes in Kate on Netflix that provided the stylistic John Wick flavor with some creative use of weapons. In these scenes, Mary Elizabeth Winstead was a total badass showing brutality when she kills. She carried every scene in the film, and I loved her performance.
However, the most significant problem with Kate was that I could see and predict 99% of the movie from a mile away. Honestly, this didn’t affect me as much as it should because I loved the style and action a lot. Moreover, on another technical note, the background score by Nathan Barr blended super well with the narrative and managed to hype the narrative inside and out.
Overall, Kate on Netflix was an enjoyable flick despite the predictable story. It is supported throughout the runtime with some strong performances, notably from Mary Elizabeth Winstead and some well-choreographed action scenes. Watch ‘Kate’ on Netflix here.
