I Care a Lot Review: Ridiculously Entertaining!

â€œIâ€™m just someone who cares.â€ I Care a Lot, the 2021 dark comedy thriller on Netflix, explores the journey of a shady legal guardian who lands in hot water when she tries to bilk a woman who has ties to a powerful gangster.

Yet another simple way to summarize I Care a Lot is that a shitty person messed with another shitty person, and things became crazy. The acting in this movie was great. Rosamund Pike had a great time playing a horrible legal guardian that preyed on the elderly. She did a great job in making you hate her, even if sheâ€™s the supposed â€œprotagonist.â€ Peter Dinklage was also pretty good at being a bad man that wanted to stay clear of troubles while getting stuff done.

The story of I Care a Lot was ridiculous. It showed an incredible, yet very real business where professionals became legal guardians of the elderly people and had absolute control of their assets. These professionalsâ€™ goal is the money, and they have little care for the elderly people that they are in charge of.

This is a very shady, silent, yet highly profitable business. This premise would upset many viewers because of the cruel ways old people were treated in the movie. However, this is what the director wanted as he wanted to raise awareness about a business that not many know about. There is a real and recent case about a legal guardian in Florida that was in charge of 450 elders. She signed a DNR for an old man against his will.

With that, I thought the movie did a great job in using the premise and created a good thriller. However, the movie felt quite preachy at times. Some elements were added that did not do much to the story. The final third act was pretty ludicrous, but it was done before. Also, some parts of the plot were questionable.

Overall, I enjoyed I Care a Lot as a thriller. None of the characters were likable, but they were still entertaining. People might hate the characters and ridiculous stories, but thatâ€™s what the movie wanted them to.
