House of Gucci is directed by Ridley Scott and is based on the novel The House of Gucci: A Sensational Story of Murder, Madness, Glamour and Greed by Sara Gay Forde. The film stars Adam Driver, Lady Gaga, Al Pacino, Jared Leto, Jeremy Irons and Salma Hayek and explores the story of a woman who marries into the notorious Gucci Family, (and as the book title says) murder and madness ensues.

Ridley Scott has directed two films this year and I wasn’t able to see the former before it left theaters in The Last Duel, but I am glad to say I got a chance to see House of Gucci this past Monday and I quit enjoyed it. The film is excellently directed as expected by the great Ridley Scott and is written decently by Becky Johnston and Robert Bentivegna. It is both elegant but coarse around the edges.

House of Gucci gives you almost everything you want out of it with fantastic drama, murder and intrigue. While it’s not always the best paced film, the cast will keep you invested for much of the runtime. As far as the performances go everyone is excellent. Adam Driver, Al Pacino, Jared Leto, Salma Hayek and Jeremy Irons all give top notch performances but Lady Gaga steals the show. Gaga absolutely nails the role of Patrizia Reggiani.

While enjoyable, this Ridley Scott directorial has its issues, especially with the re-watchability factor. In the long run, maybe a year from now, this film could be quite forgettable, but within the 157-minute runtime, it does quite a few things well.

So when I got bored I used to go to YouTube and watch Chris Stuckmann’s reviews of movies that I don’t even watch or want to watch. I liked his reviews on the bad movies because he’s pretty funny. And the Resident Evil movie series was one of them. I knew they ended, and somehow they wanted to reboot, a decision that almost no one wanted.

As expected no one should want this movie. Simply put, it’s just a mediocre zombie horror that is done better many times before. I’ll give that the zombies look great and scary at times. Unfortunate, most of the horror came in the form of cheap jump scares that worked like two or three times. Very predictable build-up.

The story was boring as you barely knew anything about the lore and the characters. Pretty sure they depended on audiences playing the game or watching the movie series beforehand. I did none of that, so I felt a little bit lost at times. The characters were categorical in that u look at a character and you instantly knew that they would be the first to die.
