Better Call Saul S6 Review: Flawlessly Executed!

Vince Gilligan’s legacy series has come to an end. With Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, he has constructed some of the greatest storytelling ever made. The series finale of Better Call Saul was an emotional experience for fans, and a wholly fulfilling narrative designed ever-so perfectly. Lasting six seasons and sixty-three episodes, the series stars Bob Odenkirk in the title role with Jonathan Banks, Rhea Seehorn and others as the supporting cast.

The final season really captures what both the shows needed to represent with their respective characters. While providing foreground of the core ensemble, the series also succeeds in establishing flawless closure at the tail-end of this overarching story. Solely from a writing standpoint, this is the best that Better Call Saul has to offer, which is on par with the undisputed mastery seen in Breaking Bad’s script.

However, on its own and through its own merits, Better Call Saul proves to be a completely different beast. The cast give their best here. Bob Odenkirk and Rhea Seahorn are phenomenal, delivering career-best work in this season. Jonathan Banks, Patrick Fabian, Michael Mando, Giancarlo Esposito, and Tony Dalton measure up as well with terrific performances for such memorable characters.

At their individual levels, the characters are granted a significant amount of final development that draws towards rousing conclusions to their respective arcs. At the core of the show, it’s Jimmy McGill/Saul Goodman/Gene Tackovic that offers the most from this. As a protagonist he has shown such interesting growth (and decay) to warrant further analysis. Proper to the technical display the series has offered thus far, this last season injects significant purpose behind every creative decision for every frame.

I could continue on past my baseline appraisals, but there is just not enough space allotted in the caption section. Definitely expect an in-depth analysis now that the series is complete, but I will summarize that this season was just perfect. Every performance, character arc, and technical design is executed flawlessly. Better Call Saul has become cemented as one of the greatest television series ever created.
