As a long time fan of The Batman and Gotham City characters, I had to review Part II of The Long Halloween. Part II continues where we left off and it appears Poison Ivy has taken control of Bruce Wayne in an effort to get him to sign over Wayne Enterprise assets to Carmine Falcone.

Meanwhile, the hunt is still on for the Holiday killer and Harvey Dent continues to spiral as he feels the pressure to make a conviction. Coupled with the many criminal escapees from Arkham Asylum, Part II was definitely a thrilling ride.
The Long Halloween has stunning animations with bold lines and it’s really just a clean look overall. The great voice acting continues with Josh Duhamel really standing out in voicing both Harvey Dent and Two Face. Like I mentioned in my review of Part I, Batman has always had a classical noir feel. Think 1940s gangsters and detectives if you will and this film really showcases that vibe.
I also felt like both films were well paced with deft use of a range of characters. It was an ingenious way of showing how all the characters in Gotham are actually interlinked, as are their stories. It skillfully fleshes out the decades old rivalry between the Falcone and Maroni families that has become a staple in Gotham.
Two Face himself has always been one of my favourite Gotham city characters, largely owing to his morally ambiguous origins. He really shines in this movie and we’re once again reminded that many of the villains in Gotham weren’t inherently evil. They were once regular people who just had a really bad day.
There are a few changes from the original story but this adaptation works just as well, if not better. I also enjoyed the little easter eggs and props placed in the movie like the origins of Two Face’s coin and the inclusion of Crime Alley. (I’m confused as to why Gotham’s denizens even bother walking down said alley…) this really gave the viewers the uncut true nature of Gotham.
I’m definitely gassed to know if they’re shifting to another storyline with other DC characters based on that end scene we got as well. I can’t lie, DC has me hooked on these animated films. Rent the movie on Amazon here.
