Bird Box Movie Review: An Okay-ish Thriller!

Starring – Sandra Bullock
Director – Susanne Bier
Genre – Thriller
Streaming Platform – Netflix

Introduction

Malorie (Sandra Bullock) is a tough woman raised on a ranch with her sister by their dad who was an asshole. To survive their dad and his lies, Malorie became tough, defensive and protective. She becomes pregnant with her roommate / boyfriend who bails on her after pregnancy. After an apocalypse starts (which cannot be explained) the storyline take a few twists and turns, which forms the crux of the entire narrative.

Rationalization

In the times of awesome thrillers like 'A Quiet Place’ and ‘Get Out’, this movie just feels plain. Acting was ordinary, John Malkovich playing the insane neighbor. The plot was predictable like you can guess who's gonna die next easily. There are no goosebumps, no jump scares, and I didn't feel anything at all throughout the movie. That being said, there is a scene at the end of the movie where the kids get scared and Malorie gets to know that Olympia is afraid of her because she's not her daughter. That is a touching moment as close as you get in the movie. The movie was shown clearly. That's the only thing Netflix does great. All Netflix Originals have this problem. They lack story and screenplay, but, damn! they look good! You can feel the surroundings, the set looks expensive, plot had sufficient strength and actors were meh!.. okay!.

Conclusion

Finally, Bird Box is just like a Bollywood movie with a better budget and a 'new’story. You know what it's gonna be like but it's still a good way to kill two hours or even more.
