Box Office: Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety Enters the 100 cr Club!

Achieving the 100 cr status is not easy these days, many superstar films like 'Jab Harry Met Sejal' and 'Padman' have desperately tried but failed to do so. But, surprisingly, things seem to have worked out in 'Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety' favor as the film is now the part of the elite 100 cr club as it rightfully deserves.

Starring Kartik Aaryan, Nushrat Bharucha and Sunny Singh in the lead roles, the film achieved this remarkable feat on its 25th day at the box office, i.e. on its fourth Monday. It stayed through all the four weekend despite facing tough competition from several films like 'Pari', 'Padmaavat', and 'Padman'.

'Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety' is now the highest grossing film in the career of each member connected with this project and it is now the second highest grosser of 2018, only behind 'Padmaavat'.

Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety - Honest Movie Review

Verdict - "A Bumpy Ride!"

Directed by Luv Ranjan who presented us with two of the funniest comedies in the past few years, Pyaar Ka Punchnama 1 and 2, Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety stars Ranjan's staple actors Kartik Aaryan, Sunny Singh, and Nushrat Bharucha in the lead roles and is collectively produced by both T-Series and Luv Films.

Kicking off with the plot, Sonu (Kartik Aaryan) and Titu (Sunny Singh) are BFF's who run a business and enjoy every moment of their life together. After going through a break-up, Titu decides to tie the knot to an uptown, all-in-all ideal nice girl Sweety (Nushrat Bharucha) who seems to like Titu at her first sight. But, Sonu doubts Sweety's polite and cordial nature, as he believes that no one can be utterly flawless in this day and age. Is there any legitimacy in Sonu's conspiracies? or Is Sweety actually a wonderful human being?

Walking into this film if you're expecting ridiculous humor similar to Pyaar Ka Punchnama 1 and 2, then this film will disappoint you a bit. Although they're few laugh-out-loud moments followed by notable comedic sequences, it is not a nonstop comedy where every comic bit works. It had a few bumps, but the breezy pace keeps the film moving without hanging onto a mundane narration.

Before moving onto the negatives, I have to give props to the production design team and the cinematographer as the film looked gorgeous and extravagant with a moderate production budget of 30 crores. Also, the performances from the lead cast Karthik, Sunny, and Nushrat were decent enough as they're enjoyable as a trio who can carry the film throughout the runtime.

Here's the problem, there's a twist involved with a particular character which was significant for the film to move on, but, it didn't come off as a surprise to me and it did miss an essential element which was the motivation. The reason behind the betrayal is something that needs an explanation and the filmmaker failed to do it. Also, the climax of the film tries to get a bit too poignant which ultimately didn't work as expected only because of the lack of character development.

On the whole, Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety is not a bad film, it will entertain you with few funny laughs, peppy music, and enjoyable performances but as an overall film, it failed in few aspects which are crucial. Give it a shot this weekend or at least consider watching when it eventually debuts on Amazon Prime.

Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2 - Movie Review

Verdict - "A comical blast!"

When was the last time that movie fans actually urged for a sequel? It only happens for few movies in very rare instances. And Pyaar Ka Punchnama is one of the few movies that received a lot of attention and popularity among the 18-30 age demographic right after its release back in 2011. I often see a lot of people pulling out references from the movie, posting a bunch of internet memes and I've been excited about the sequel soon after its announcement and was a little worried after watching the theatrical trailer because I'm in the minority of people who wanted to see Liquid (Divyendu Sharma) back to do another diverse role. But, finally after its release I watched the movie with a bunch of my friends and let me tell you that's the best way to watch this movie.

The storyline for Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2 was a big throwback and felt very reminiscent to its prequel where a group of three friends fall in love with three beautiful girls and then few months later, their relationships come to a grueling state where problems become a big concern that finally unlocks the door for a breakup.

Even with a tried premise and storyline, the writers, and director, Luv Ranjan constructed an entertaining movie with a series of jokes throughout the first half where I busted out laughing for every single scene. It never decelerated it's momentum for a minute and enthralled me to the most. And the most commendable part about the first half is that it never neglected the storyline and altered the movie into a silly nonsensical entertainer.

But the movie certainly miscarried the celerity going into the second half where the entertaining aspect dried out a bit and it truly felt a little dismal and it felt quite long and would've been trimmed for at least twenty minutes. I have no complaints about the performances from the complete cast and I have to mention about Kartik Aaryan a little, the man gives out his best every single time and he never gets any other major opportunities in other films. I wonder why? That's another topic for another day!

Altogether, Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2 delivered everything that I ever expected. It was funny and compelling at the same time that made every single person in my theatre laugh-out-loud and enjoy the movie for the most part. Is it better than the first part? Absolutely not! But, I had a fantastic time with this movie. Watch it with your friends, I bet you will have no regrets.
