The Punisher Season 2 Review: Moderately Entertaining!

Starring – Jon Bernthal
Created by - Steve Lightfoot
Genre – Action / Crime / Drama
Streaming Platform – Netflix

Jon Bernthal in The Punisher Season 2

Introduction

[The following section might contain spoilers, please proceed with caution]

Frank Castle is back with his itchy trigger finger, uncontrollable rage hyped on a soldier’s masculinity and his questionable morals. He’s always on the road, on the move after the events of Season 1. One year later, he stops at a bar for one night to slow down. And just when it seemed like he might actually had another shot at life with the bartender lady, the chances are vaporised as some mercenaries arrive at the bar looking for a girl. All hell breaks loose when Frank intervenes and makes thirteen bodies and Jackson Pollock’s all bar with blood. It turns out the girl was actually in deep trouble with a very rich and powerful couple. As the story develops, Frank and the girl are on the run while don’t knowing what’s chasing them. Frank ‘deals’ with the second wave of mercenaries sent after the girl but gets arrested by the cops of a small town. Then a Church Father/Assassin was sent by the Rich Couple to kill the girl.

Frank and the Pilgrim (Assassin’s name) plays cat and mouse with each others while nameless bodies pile up along the way. Agent Dinah Madani of Homeland rescues Frank and the Girl and take them back to New York. In New York, Billy Russo escapes the hospital but couldn’t remember why his face is destroyed. He starts a brotherhood with the war veterans and starts looting joints. In between this shit storm, cops and feds just appears for namesake not doing shit to stop any of them. It looks like the old Telugu movies where police were insulted for coming after crime happens. These three killers (Frank, Billy and Pilgrim) keep facing each other with help from Curtis (Frank’s friend), Krista (Billy’s Therapist). At the end, Frank take out the whole brotherhood, learns that Pilgrim’s children are being held hostage by the rich couple and kills them too.

Rationalization

The season is filled with some very graphic, intense and masculine gun fights that can make any person feel powerful just by watching them. The season progresses as Frank try to connect with ‘the girl/kid’ Amy while keeping her at an arm’s distance. The Krista-Billy’s modern Bonnie-Clyde romance can teach us a whole new meaning of what love looks like from outside. People build their own castles around the family with stone walls. Frank had his grand own castle with his wife, children inside it safe and loved. When his trusted neighbor Billy killed his family, Frank was left alone in the castle and loneliness is the mind's prison. You'll never trust others, afraid of getting hurt. You know that because of our life style, somebody might get hurt because of you. And when that happened to Frank, to a war veteran with primal rage, you can see what he’s capable of and what he’s willing to do.

Conclusion

Overall, the storytellers and Marvel stuck to it’s guns this time by delivering what ‘The Punisher’ promises. A moderately entertaining, blood spilling vigilantism with countless bullets and body count.

Daredevil Season 3 Review: Super Thrilling!

Starring – Charlie Cox, Deborah Ann Woll and Vincent D'Onofrio
Director – Various
Genre – Comic Book / Superhero
Streaming Platform – Netflix

Terming the improvements of the storyline and the brutality, Daredevil Season 3 has managed to satisfy expectations. With the release of Wilson Fisk from prison, hell breaks lose putting our hero vigilante on the verge of death yet again. With the sudden cancellation of 'Iron Fist', Daredevil had a lot to live up to. But fortunately, Season 3 has successfully brought back the light on Marvel.

Charlie Cox and Elden Henson deliver impeccable performances making their respective characters much more relatable and iconic while Deborah Ann Woll is the best supporting character I've ever seen. The action sequences and lighting have to be the most appreciated in my opinion, although its emotions and some character drama that makes this season much more thrilling than its predecessors. With series like 'The Punisher', 'Jessica Jones' and 'Daredevil', Marvel holds its crown for directing the best superhero action and Season 3 is just another cherry on top.
