Piku - Movie Review

Verdict - "An Amusing Wholesome Entertainer."

Portraying her gallant and humane character, Piku (Deepika) works for an architecture firm in New Delhi and she spends her leisure time with her sick aging father Bhaskor Banerjee (Amitabh Bachchan) who has a severe constipation problem. Subsequently, Bhaskor reveals his wish to visit his hometown and requests Piku to make the arrangements. Left with no alternatives, Piku plans for a road trip which is suitable for her dad's comfort. Will the road trip turn out well?

Writer, Juhi Chaturvedi (known for her works in Vicky Donor) did a spectacular job by allowing the audience submerge into these light-hearted conversations the characters in the movie share and made sure that the movie looked unorthodox with its approach. The dialogues felt candid and the analytical style that she chose to approach felt original and unique.

On the other hand, the movie had a lot to prove when it comes to the democratic side of people and conveyed a vital message about how children should take the responsibility of their parents.

Also, the characters in the movie have been illustrated very well by the writer, giving them a unique and a distinct persona which is very relatable to a common man. And the portrayal of these characters by the main leads in the movie was flawless. Deepika had to take the responsibility as the captain of the ship and she embraced her character to every extent and represented it with ease.

Amitabh Bachchan's campy humor stands out as the most compelling aspect in the movie as it felt very upfront and sharp and he was immersed into his character as he was completely out of his comfort zone with his personality and charisma. Irrfan Khan felt like a good supporting character and got the time to share few of hilarious scenes in the movie.

Overall, Shoojit Sircar never fails to deliver a fascinating movie when it comes to comedy with a light touch of generosity. Piku delivers on every aspect by adapting a silly and an effortless concept and converting it into gold. It felt neoteric and wholesome in this contemporary world. Don't miss it!
