Badlapur - Movie Review

Verdict - "A unique revenge drama which certainly lived up to all its expectations on every scale."

What do we usually expect from a movie filled with vengeance and retaliation? A conventional tit for tat storyline between a good guy and a bad guy? Badlapur also transacts with the same traditional premise (which you would've speculated a long time ago), but that impulsive factor assisted the movie levitate its quality and eminence.

Substantially, the most intriguing part of the movie is its screenplay, which was totally erratic and irregular. In simple words, this movie can be described as a vicious labyrinth which keeps you guessing about the finale, but you just can't expect it. And that's the best part of the movie, it doesn't follow the typical three-act procedure but maintains a non-linear structure throughout the movie.

Also, the callous, sadistic vibe set up the movie pretty well as I felt inconvenient in few situations and I really do appreciate the writer and director Sriram Raghavan for the distinct effort. Furthermore, the movie is also surrounded with a dark humor around it which constructs a good laugh even in a serious situation.

However, they are few pacing issues throughout the second half, which would've turned uninteresting after a while, but it gladly fall into that mess.

Varun Dhawan's mesmerized me with a rugged look and his distinct character of many shades from a lovable husband to a merciless vigilante. And he was totally incredible, as we can the transformation that he went through as an actor when compared to his earlier films.

Nawazuddin Siddiqui is a show-stealer in every aspect, with his cunning little smile and the futile innocence on his face, he just knows how to draw attention towards him in every single scene. Huma Qureshi and Radhika Apte were also astounding with their performances as their characters were written properly with a much-needed purpose.

As a whole, the enthralling plot, the offbeat direction, and the remarkable performances makes Badlapur a unique revenge drama which certainly lived up to all its expectations on every scale. A must watch!
