ABCD 2 - Movie Review

Verdict - "A series of awe-inspiring dance sequences, filled with few exhausting stereotypical scenes in between."

Dancing is something I regard as a spectacle, an extravaganza that we all love to cherish and admire. Moreover, watching ABCD 2 with a wide range of audience members on a big screen was an enthralling experience.

But does this movie need to be 154 minutes long? Definitely not!

Accused of cheating in a reality dance tv show, Mumbai Stunners (a group of talented young dancers) decide to respond to all their haters in an overwhelming way, by representing India in a World Hip-Hop dance competition that takes place in Las Vegas, Nevada every year.

Let's kick off with the good things first, as I stated earlier, ABCD 2 is a spectacle to watch and the director cum choreographer Remo D' Souza had done a magnificent job in displaying all the dance moves flawlessly on a wide frame. The significant effort and the hard work they've put into this movie were unprecedented and should be highly appreciated.

Unfortunately, those were the only good things I can point out about ABCD 2. Don't get me wrong, people performing few staggering dance moves is always to watch. But for how long? Maybe for 90 minutes?

And here's my major concern about ABCD 2. It stretches and struggles throughout the run-time with few tedious subplots, dreary love story, and tiresome humor. With Varun and Shraddha joining the cast this time, it's quite foolish not to play a love angle between them. But they should've given the couple a lot more screen time together to blossom their relationship in an appealing way.

Also, they're numerous clichéd moments in the entire movie where the characters find obvious solutions for every terrible situation that points out the lazy screenwriting issue. Likewise, the screenplay could've been a lot sharper by editing out many irrelevant scenes that made me feel tiresome and exhausted.

Varun Dhawan and Shraddha Kapoor looked adorable as a couple, and they looked legit with their dance moves and the behind-the-scenes effort that they've put into should certainly be appreciated. But like I said, they were never given the importance that they deserve which was quite nonsensical.

Overall, ABCD 2 showcases everything you love to watch from a movie  based on dance. But sadly excluding the dance sequences, everything else falls flat in the movie and it's just wearisome to watch.

Here's a better idea, wait till it premieres on TV on a rainy day afternoon and watch it if you have nothing better to do.

My Rating - 2/5
Grade - C (Meh! Probably a rental!)
